for non-americans: kansas city is famous for actually being two cities, or rather one city split across two states. it’s interesting that berens specifically locates michael’s plan as taking place in kansas city, missouri. why not both missouri and kansas, which would thematically fit better with michael trying to bridge a human-monster divide under his leadership, blending universes, blending identities? or even why not just “kansas city”?

berens is purposefully locating this fight outside of the winchesters’ heartland, their home base, the state where both their legacy and their lost childhood lie (lebanon’s a fair bit away, but lawrence is pretty close). impossible odds might feel like home (and what a choice of words), but they’re not going home this christmas, no matter what andrew “the troll” dabb posts on his twitter. they are subtly, from the very beginning, mismatched with the playing field. something just doesn’t feel right.

jack’s living off his soul, cas is on borrowed time, dean has a crack open in his mind, sam is… listen he grew a grief beard and broke an axe this season. sam is watching everyone he loves slip out of his hands and it’s not as easy to sum up in a pithy phrase like the rest of the gang’s problems are, but he is losing it. last episode was such a win. a triumph. but they are very, very far from being home.

the choice to specify Missouri had both my husband’s and my curiosity piqued.  the only thought I had was they were referring specifically to downtown Kansas City, but that’s more business-oriented than residential – there are only 17k-ish people living in downtown Kansas City.

Michael is wholly unpredictable, though, so who fucking knows what he’s up to.

I love how MUCH “don’t tell Sam” implies about his and Jack’s relationship

He’s probably lectured him for a disproportionate amount of his life about salad and brushing teeth and showering regularly and why you don’t always eat Dean food, and no pizza is not a vegetable and have you cut your toenails and –
