There’s been a few poignant visuals around locked and unlocked doors this season. 14×04 had Dean about to break the door to the fire safety box, then he realized he could just open it and take what he needed out, so he did. 14×04 also had Sam unable to break through the glass of the comic book shop once the doors were closed, a measure against theives. To open a way out, Sam instead had to make a device made to “blow up”.
14×06 has Harper fumbling with keys to open the library, but then Jack just opens the door, telling her that she didn’t lock it in the first place. Once inside Jack locks the door, but he doesn’t push the button and activate the second magnetic lock. Harper unlocks the door and lets in her zombie boyfriend, Vance. When Vance is captured, Harper runs away by simply slipping out the front door. AU!Charlie sees a lock that’s been opened and ruined that was locked and functioning before. Her and Sam can just go in now.
Things trapped, but not really trapped. Unable to break in/out, but able to leave with creative thinking. Different variations of this theme: doors that are not as locked or unlocked as they appear. “Get creative fighting the unknown” is another theme running through the season, to whatever end.
Suddenly relevant, lol. We also got a still opened door at the recycling center in 14×09. When Cas and Sam go into Dean’s head they are gonna have to get creative to get him out.
